PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

 

  • To provide generalist assistance and support with all aspects of the company’s Maintenance.
  • To undertake all painting and decorating duties as required.
  • To contribute to the development and expansion of My Choice Children’s Homes and My Choice Schools.

 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • To adhere to the Maintenance Manager’s instructions.
  • To work to a schedule where applicable as directed by the Maintenance Manager.
  • To complete painting, decorating, all aspects of maintenance jobs to a high standard.
  • To ensure all preparation work is completed before starting a job, in particular covering the floor and furniture before decorating
  • Ensure you liaise with the Care Manager upon starting a job and during the day checking that it is appropriate to continue work in the home
  • Make sure the young people in the home are always supervised when you are completing work.  If left alone with a young person for any period of time it is imperative to inform the manger of the home. You must then contact the maintenance manager.
  • If the home is unsettled you phone the Maintenance Manager for permission to leave.  If unavailable you liaise with Care Manger and leave, failing that notify head office.  If leaving the home please ensure all materials are cleared away.
  • Leave adequate time to clear away.  It is expected to clean and tidy the area you have been working after you have finished each day.
  • Ensure before you start decorating all flooring and furniture is well covered, this is your responsibility.
  • Use of personal mobile phones should only be used in tea breaks or lunch time, unless an emergency.
  • All lunch breaks are taken away from the homes.
  • When arriving at a home or head office you must sign in the visitors book, you must also sign out when leaving.
  • All works tools MUST be kept on your person (work belt) or by your side in a lockable tool box.  No tools are to be left unsupervised.  You must not leave them unattended at any time. You will also be provided with a lockable tool box. 
  • It is your responsibility to read the maintenance risk assessment when you arrive at the home, and regularly review this with the manager.
  • You must be at the home at 9am until 5pm with a half hour lunch time and tea breaks.  All materials must be picked up before you arrive on site.  If you need extra materials while on site you need to contact the Maintenance Manager to advise.
  • Generally your work will be planned by the Maintenance Manager, however due to the nature of the work there will be emergency jobs which you be expected to attend to with minimal notice.  There may also be out of hour’s work which you will be expected to attend.
  • Your main duties will be decorating however there will be occasions where you will need to undertake other maintenance duties for example, fixing locks, doors, windows, etc.  The Maintenance Manager will support you with this.
  • The use of company vans and petrol cards are for work use only- unless authorized by the Maintenance Manager. The van also must be left clean and tidy at all times- no smoking in the vans
  • Smoking at homes must only be undertaken in the designated areas outside
  • All materials are to be stored in the van, or in the lock up. 
  • Before materials are bought they are to be authorized by the Maintenance Manager.   
  • When collecting materials from building merchants they must be signed by you.
  • Always work professionally, consider use of language and discussion with other maintenance individuals whilst in the homes.  Be aware of your surroundings.
  • Annual leave is to be booked 4 weeks in advance, annual leave booked under this time scale is discretionary.
  • If calling in sick- please phone the maintenance manager at the first instance by 8.30am.  If Maintenance Manager not available phone head office by 9am.

CONDITIONS OF SERVICE

 

Working Hours:  35 per week.  Monday to Friday.  9.00am to 5.00pm

Holiday Entitlement:  20 days plus 8 bank/public holidays (eight bank/public holidays recognised by the company are: New Year's Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, May Day Bank Holiday Monday, Spring Bank Holiday Monday, Late Summer Bank Holiday Monday, Christmas Day, Boxing Day)
