About the Role

Would you like to make a difference to a person’s life?

Are you looking for something different but worried you don’t have the right skills?

Whether you have previously worked with people with Learning Disabilities or are looking for a complete change of career, we believe that everyone has something to offer the people we support. Life skills, the right attitude and a genuine desire to help people improve their lives are the most important characteristics of a support worker.

Your core values are what interests us about you the most. We can support you to learn the necessary skills as you will receive excellent training opportunities, a thorough induction and supervision as part of our commitment to you.

The role will be full of variety, with no two days the same!

Grangemead is a Respite Service for adults with a Learning Disability in Hailsham. It has recently been refurbished to a high standard offering a hotel style service. Most of our bedrooms have en suite rooms and excellent facilities for our guests. We have interactive Sensory Equipment and the latest in Assistive Technology to enhance the experience of guests staying with us.

We provide a fun holiday experience for long and short respite stays where they promote life skills, independence, community activities and opportunities to meet with friends.

Grangemead also offers a service for guests requiring emergency respite who need somewhere safe and comfortable to stay due a personal crisis .This rewarding role would require successful candidates to provide both emotional and physical support for people staying in respite services.

Here are two quotes from staff working at our service.

“I changed my career to work with adults with learning disabilities and have never looked back. The new facilities we have at Grangemead mean a more positive and person centred service for our clients. I get great job satisfaction coming to work every day.”

“I was very impressed by Management spotting my potential and encouraging me to develop my skills and within a year, I progressed from a Support Co-ordinator to a Team Leader.”

Additional Information

This post is subject to an Enhanced DBS check or Enhanced check for Regulated Activity with the Disclosure & Barring Services (previously the Criminal Records Bureau). Please note that we require evidence of an overseas police check if you have lived or worked abroad.

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.

Work Permits: we may be able to obtain a Work Permit for this post but this is subject to meeting the requirements of the UK Border Agency’s Points-based Immigration System.

From 6 April 2011 the Home Office has placed a permanent restriction on the number of migrant workers that all Tier 2 (General) Sponsors can recruit. Due to the restrictions we cannot guarantee that individuals that meet the requirements of the Points-based Immigration System will be issued with clearance to obtain work permits.
