This individual will report directly to a qualified Finance Director as second in command of a medium sized finance team, alongside the Management Accountant. They will be tasked with managing the firm's nominal ledger, focusing primarily on month-end processes, accounts payable supervision and payroll administration.

Overview of Role:

  • Supervise all aspects of accounts payable.
  • Manage the monthly payroll process, inputting required data, reviewing output reports, liaising with the payroll bureau, maintaining internal payroll schedules and responding to staff queries.
  • Ensure pension contributions are processed accurately each month.
  • Produce annual P11D and PSA schedules and monitor accuracy of RTI reporting to HMRC.
  • Assist in completion of annual bonus workbook and annual employee total reward statements.
  • Reconcile control accounts monthly, including pension and payroll accounts.
  • Complete quarterly VAT returns and reconcile the figures to the nominal ledger.
  • Calculate and monitor accruals and prepayment balances monthly.
  • Prepare and input all month-end journals, including payroll, prepayments, accruals and depreciation.
  • Maintain and update fixed asset register and depreciation schedules.
  • Prepare monthly formal bank reconciliations for all office and client accounts.
  • Prepare annual tax analysis workbook.
  • Assist in the preparation of annual audited financial statements.
  • Release payments from the office and client bank accounts as required.
  • Provide various monthly/quarterly ledger reports and respond to queries and requests from legal and business service departments.

About You:

  • Minimum of 5 years working in a law firm finance department including time spent managing the firm's payroll and purchase ledger functions.
  • Good knowledge of Solicitors Accounts Rules and excellent knowledge of Excel.
  • Attention to detail and ability to spot errors.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
